Emily Good was arrested after filming the police perform a traffic stop outside of her house. She was charged with obstructing the officer’s administration of government. Now, the police have targeted her neighbors and supporters by ticketing them with the most minor of infractions.

during a neighborhood meeting in support of Ms Good, Rochester Police came out with a ruler and measured the parking-distance of the attendees’ cars. Cars that were more than 12 inches from the curb (even by half an inch) were ticketed. Needless to say, the 12 inch ordinance isn’t normally enforced with this kind of vigor.

This is the video of her filming the traffic stop.

Members of the community who are supporting Ms. Good haven now had the police’s eyes turned on them.

The message from the police is loud and clear: “We will do whatever we want, when we want. If you try to object, we will find some way to make you pay.”

New York Attorney general candidate Richard Brodsky has released his privacy platform detailing what laws he believes need to be changed to fit with our changing technology and the internet.

The information age has forced us to revisit our right to privacy. Technology has been a force for change, both good and bad. It has connected people around the world and eased daily life while simultaneously created a potential “surveillance society.” New technology has resulted in vast networks of cameras on highways monitoring traffic, allowed online advertisers to monitor and mine a person’s detailed internet activity, and created law enforcement’s ability to “enter” a home remotely—by thermal heat detectors and other means.

I admit it.  This site scares the crap out of me.  Several people I know are listed here.

New Jersey has a similar site.  Both of them are too transparent for my tastes.  Most of the people I know that are on that list are regular teachers.  They are just regular people going about their jobs, yet their salaries are listed and could now be potential targets to anyone with a grudge.
