What are you planning to do for Halloween?  At a church in North Carolina, they’re planning on a good, old fashioned book burning.  The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, NC is planning on getting rid of all of “Satan’s books” by burning them into oblivion.

The website for the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, N.C., says there are “scriptural bases” for the book burning. The site quotes Acts 19:18-20: “And many that believed, came and confessed and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts, brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”

Church leaders deem Good News for Modern Man, the Evidence Bible, the New International Version Bible, the Green Bible and the Message Bible, as well as at least seven other versions of the Bible as “Satan’s Bibles,” according to the website. Attendees will also set fire to “Satan’s popular books” such as the work of “heretics” including the Pope, Mother Teresa, Billy Graham and Rick Warren.

“I believe the King James version is God’s preserved, inspired, inerrant and infallible word of God,” Pastor Marc Grizzard told a local news station of his 14-member parish.

Apparently, no one informed Pastor Grizzard that there were a lot of shenanigans involved in creating the King James version of the bible.  It’s also likely that his 14-member parish is comprised mostly of family members and he’s a fringe nut that’s taken everything in his life to extremes.

The event also seeks to destroy “Satan’s music” which includes every genre from country,rap and rock to “soft and easy” and “Southern Gospel” and” contemporary Christian.”

Maybe they should just try to actually educate themselves instead and just not read or listen to things that offend them.  Do they not realize that they are actually helping “Satan” to profit by buying his stuff and burning it?  Do you think that “Satan” really cares if you burn his stuff?  He already has your money.

Robert Braun, 74, of West Allis, Wisconsin is mad as hell at his local library because they have a copy of Baby Be-Bop, by Francesca Lia Block.  He wants the book banned, removed, and burned because it’s offensive and vulgar.  He’s also suing to make this happen.

Braun and three fellow members of the Christian Civil Liberties Union have filed a claim against the West Bend Library for stocking “Baby Be-Bop” in its young adult section. The book, which is about a teen struggling with his homosexuality, is “explicitly vulgar, racial and anti-Christian” and is “inappropriate for the elderly and their minor grandchildren, and degrades the community,” according to the complaint.

The complaint asks for “damages and demand for relief pursuant to Wisconsin Statute Section 893.80.” Specifically, the plaintiffs, only one of whom lives in West Bend, are asking for $120,000, and that West Bend Mayor Kristine Deiss resign and the “racist book be removed and publicly burned or destroyed as a deterrent to repeating this offensive conduct.”

Mr. Braun, even if you burn every single copy of this book known to exist, it isn’t going to deter people from creating similar content that will offend you.  Also, if this book is burn, then so should the bible.  After all, it’s racist and instills violence in its readers.  If one reads the Song of Solomon, it’s explicitly vulgar too.  Be careful what you wish for Mr. Braun.
