As if we didn’t see this one coming.  First, there’s a gigantic push for the HPV vaccine for girls.  The government and nice pharmaceutical companies tell us that we need to give girls the HPV vaccine so they won’t get cancer.  This might be good for families with histories of cancer, but those without don’t really need it.  So, since there’s resistance to inoculate all girls, we’ve moved on to boys and the evils of what will happen to them if they don’t get inoculated.

…the rate of oropharyngeal cancers — mostly cancers of the tonsil and base of tongue — appears to be rising in certain populations and the human papilloma virus or HPV transmitted by oral sex is likely to blame.

New vaccines that target HPV may help turn the trend around, the researchers reported in this week’s issue of the journal Cancer. The vaccines are recommended for young women in Europe and the United States.

But young men should be offered the vaccines too, said Dr. Erich Sturgis and Paul Cinciripini of the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

“(We) encourage the rapid study of the efficacy and safety of these vaccines in males and, if successful, the recommendation of vaccination of young adult and adolescent males,” Sturgis and Cinciripini wrote.

Vaccines for everybody!!!  No, we didn’t test these thoroughly, but who cares?  You should still get them because oral sex is bad bad bad and you don’t want little Johnny getting mouth cancer, do you?

In one study cited by Sturgis and Cinciripini, Dr. Maura Gillison of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and colleagues studied 100 patients with oral or throat cancer and compared them with 200 healthy people. They found those who had six or more oral sex partners had a high risk of the cancer.

Okay, you checked 100 people with oral and throat cancer.  Did they smoke?  Did they chew?  Did they have a history of cancer in their families?

All these studies and conclusions are based on supposition without a lot of facts to back them up.  The only evidence is that HPV16 is connected with mouth and throat cancer.  There are several strains of HPV that don’t cause cancer.  Some cause warts.  And their statistics are somewhat misleading.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended vaccination for 30 million women and girls aged 11 to 26 to prevent cervical cancer, which kills about 300,000 women worldwide each year.

So, 300,000 women worldwide die of cervical cancer each year, yet the USA wants all 30 million women 11-26 to get a vaccine that wasn’t properly tested before being released?  They purposefully skew the numbers to make it appear that American women are in severe and immediate danger unless they get this vaccine.  300,000 women is not a lot when compared to the entire female population on Earth.

More scare mongering.  People will fall for this.  They’ll get the vaccine solely because women have been taught to fear being sick, especially if they get cancer.  I can almost guarantee that no parents are looking closely into this vaccine and just simply accepting that it’s best for their children.  After all, the government would never do anything to hurt their children.  I’ve heard it from several people already.  They believe that the HPV vaccine is good and there are no side effects.  I can just now imagine them convincing their sons that they need it too.
